Star Wars Celebration is currently happening in Anaheim, and you can check out all of the latest updates from our man on the ground, Alex Maidy, right here. However, one of the biggest reveals just made its online debut: the very first trailer for Star Wars: Andor, which also reveals its release date – August 31st. The 12 episodes are set to drop on a weekly schedule, and according to what was revealed at the Star Wars Celebration panel, the first season takes place half a decade before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The plan is for the show to run five years, with each season depicting a year in the life of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor leading up to his tragic fate in Rogue One.

Additionally, it was revealed that Succession composer Nicholas Britell will be doing the score. Anyone who watches Succession or heard his magnificent score for The King, can tell you that his hiring is quite a coup. The show is executive produced by Tony Gilroy, the same guy who apparently did the Rogue One reshoots way back when. Diego Luna reprises his role as Andor, while Forest Whitaker returns as Saw Gerrera, and Genevieve O’Reilly is back as Mon Mothma, a role she first played in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Adria Arjona co-stars, along with Stellan Skarsgård. You can catch glimpses of both in the trailer. Arjona seems to be playing an ally of Andor’s, while Stellan seems like an Imperial villain. We’ll see.

Here’s the official synopsis from Disney plus the key art:

The “Andor” series will explore a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Star Wars Andor release date

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story may have had a tortured production history, but the end result was surprisingly excellent, and compared to the other movies from the saga that followed, it seemed more creatively focused. I look forward to revisiting the dark days of the Rebellion and will definitely be watching when this show hits Disney Plus!

What do you think of the Star Wars: Andor trailer and are you excited for its August 31 release date?
