The first glimpse at STAY ALIVE (starring Frankie Muniz trying to shake his kiddie image) gave the impression that the film was another one of ‘those’ films. You know, the ones that end up trying to be good but in reality sucks the devil’s ass? Well, as if we needed any more reinforcement, Endgame Entertainment has released the synopsis, as well as their own teaser poster for the film, which seems like a lesson in Photoshop 101. Take one part G5 Mac computer, add 1 part PlayStation controller, mix. Well, here’s hoping that the film is better (not likely, but here’s hoping).
Loomis, an elite video game tester, gets his hands on a demo copy of the hot new game based on voodoo and black magic titled “Stay Alive”. When he dies abruptly under questionable circumstances, Loomis’ friends, lead by Hutch (Jon Foster), come together to pay tribute to him by pulling an all-nighter trying to conquer his last gaming quest. The game starts with a séance evoking the Blood Countess, a historical figure who was responsible for hundreds of human sacrifices in an attempt at salvaging her youth and beauty. Little do the gamers know, by playing the game they have put into motion forces that will lead to their demise. The gruesome manner in which each player dies in the game is the way they die in reality. Hutch must find a way to beat both the game and the evil Countess in order to…stay alive.
