Steve Carell says he’s ready for Anchorman 3 if they make one

Steve Carell has been busy getting to work in some serious dramas recently, including this year’s BEAUTIFUL BOY and 2017’s LAST FLAG FLYING, with others like VICE and WELCOME TO MARWEN on the way. This has been a turn for the man known for comedies like 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN and GET SMART, but the actor is willing to get into funny mode at the drop of hat, and recently said he’s ready for a third ANCHORMAN movie should the occasion arise.

While promoting this month’s WELCOME TO MARWEN from director Robert Zemeckis, he was asked about a third ANCHORMAN movie – the second of which celebrates its five-year anniversary this month. Carell talked about how much fun those two movies were, saying he’s down to reprise his role as lovable simpleton Brick Tamland if another movie gets the green light.

“If they make another one, I’ll do another one. Those are really fun. That’s just hanging out with friends and being silly,”

Coincidentally, it was announced last week that none other than the title anchorman himself – Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) – would be getting his own podcast next year. Carell was then asked about going on the podcast, and even if it’s not a big-time movie, the actor is still willing to bring back Brick for our earbuds.

“Sure, if he wants me to come in and say some non-sequiturs as Brick, of course. I would in a second,”

Though ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES was not as well-received from fans when it came out in 2013, it made more money than the first, making over $120 million domestically. There has been talk of a third movie, with Adam McKay sharing ideas to where a third movie could go, but nothing has come of it. Everyone involved seems to be ready for another outing, so it doesn’t seem like it would be hard to get a third movie going if they wanted.

No matter what you think of the first movie and its sequel, there's no denying Carell's Brick is a hysterical creation that will always be welcome no matter how many years have gone by. Should Burgundy's podcast have a late-night talk show feel that means there's room for a sidekick, and I could think of few who would be as perfect as Brick.

WELCOME TO MARWEN is in theaters December 21 and VICE follows on December 25.
