Back in July, I was fortunate enough to be in attendance at the ADVENTURES OF TIN TIN panel at San Diego Comic Con, watching Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson chat up their past and future projects. One exciting piece of info that was divulged by Mr. Spielberg was that JURASSIC PARK 4 was being written. Spielberg didn’t reveal the screenwriter’s name, but seemed happy with the progress.
Today brings us confirmation of the writer’s name (to be fair, he’s been associated with JP 4 in the past), via Spielberg himself in an interview with Empire magazine; an interview where he acknowledges that part three of the franchise certainly has to be imrpoved upon. I’ll just let him tell it:
“The screenplay is being written right now by Mark Protosevich. I’m hoping that will come out in the next couple of years. We have a good story. We have a better story for four than we had for three…”
Protosevich is one of the more prolific writers in Hollywood today, with flicks like THE CELL, POSEIDON and I AM LEGEND to his credit. More recently he helped pen the story for THOR and was the writer on the OLDBOY remake that Spielberg toyed with last year. (Of course, Spike Lee has now taken over that project, and it remains to be seen if Protosevich is still involved at all.)
Universal is evidently aiming for a 2013 release for JURASSIC 4, although that may clash with Spielberg’s schedule; he’s got ROBOPOCALYPSE lined up for a July 3rd, 2013 debut. Time will tell how this turns out…
