For nearly five months, from May 2nd to September 27th, the Writers Guild of America was on strike, causing a lot of movies and TV shows to shut down production. Then a lot of the projects that had been able to continue filming had to shut down when the Screen Actors Guild also went on strike as of July 14th. While the SAG strike continues, the writers are getting back to work – and Variety reported that top priority at the Netflix streaming service is making sure that the scripts for Stranger Things season 5 (the final season of that show) and Wednesday season 2 get finished so they’ll be ready to roll as soon as the SAG strike comes to an end.

As Variety put it, “For Netflix, top of mind is writing scripts for and filming the second season of Wednesday and the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, the latter needing to happen before its aging stars can no longer pass for high schoolers.Wednesday also happens to center on characters that are high school students.

Details on Stranger Things season 5 are being kept under wraps, but we can expect to see the return of stars like Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, and Priah Ferguson. Linda Hamilton is joining the cast for this season, and Prey director Dan Trachtenberg will be taking the helm of an episode.

We also don’t know what will be happening in season 2 of the “comedic, supernaturally-infused coming-of-age” series Wednesday, a continuation of the Addams Family franchise. We do know that another member of the Addams Family who didn’t make it into the first season will be appearing, and of course Jenna Ortega will be reprising the title role. Tim Burton is “not quite sure” if he’ll be directing episodes of this season, but he remains on board as an executive producer.
