Studio Ghibli shows off a brand-new trailer for Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter

Studio Ghibli, the premiere Japanese animation studio that brought us such classics as SPIRITED AWAY, MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO, and PRINCESS MONONOKE is hard at work on their first-ever animated kids show, and it’s coming to Amazon Prime Video later this month!

RONJA, THE ROBBER’S DAUGHTER will be an animated adaptation of Pippi Longstocking author Astrid Lindgren’s cherished children’s book series of the same name. Directed by Goro Miyazaki – son of legendary filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki – with an English narration by actress Gillian Anderson, this bold, new series follows the adventures of Ronja, the only daughter of a chief bandit, who grows up in the Scandinavian woodlands and eventually makes friends with the son of the rival clan’s chief.

RONJA, THE ROBBER’S DAUGHTER will mark yet another instance that Studio Ghibli has adapted a classic piece of literature after having brought Diana Wynne’s HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE, Ursula K. LeGuin’s TALES FROM EARTHSEA, and other works to the big screen.

Whoa! This is actually the first time I’m hearing about this project and my excitement knows no bounds. I am a huge Studio Ghibli fan, and can’t wait to see what manner of magic and visual splendor their creative teams will bring to the journey of Ronja.. If this animated show is anything like the books, we can expect for there to be beasts, deception, and for our heroine to befriend a few peculiar people as she wanders the wilderness.

RONJA, THE ROBBER’S DAUGHTER is set for a January 27, 2017 debut on Amazon Prime Video.
