David Ayer releases new Suicide Squad images ft. Joker and a goat

Unlike Zack Snyder’s Justice League, David Ayer’s ultimate cut of Suicide Squad remains in the hands of its creator. As the story goes, Ayer has tried time and again to convince Warner Bros. to release his version of the film, but the studio has yet to oblige. Some would tell you that it’s because Ayer’s version of the film failed to meet Warner’s creative vision, while others would have you believe that corporate meddling is what ultimately led to a contentious release. Believe what you will, but nothing has stopped Ayer from campaigning for the film’s release. After all, if Zack Snyder can get Warner to cough up $70 million to finish Justice League, why not do the same for Suicide Squad?

Well, part of the reason Warner passed on Ayer’s version of the film is due to having plans to launch James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Gunn’s film has been out for a few weeks now and was arguably better received than the studio’s 2016 version. Nevertheless, Ayer isn’t about to give up.

Recently, Ayer shared new Suicide Squad images (via Instagram) from the elusive “Ayer Cut” featuring Jared Leto’s Joker. The first image shows Joker in the “circle of knives” hotel room set, holding a gun beneath his chin. Surrounded by champagne bottles, we see Joker looking up in total bliss, the gun cocked and ready to fire.

Meanwhile, the second image depicts the Goat Head Priest brandishing a rifle and possibly about to storm the twisted halls of Arkham Asylum. You can check out both images below:

What do you think of these new Suicide Squad images? Are you among the many who are hoping to one day see Ayer’s cut of Suicide Squad? What do you think happens in the scenes that correspond with these photos? Are we missing out on another killer monologue from Leto’s Joker? Is it a crime that we don’t get to witness a proper storming of Arkham Asylum with Ayer’s animal friends? As someone who doesn’t hate 2016’s Suicide Squad, I would watch Ayer’s version of the film in a heartbeat. In fact, according to Ayer, his version of the film is only a few unfinished VFX shots away from completion. I don’t know what sort of legal gymnastics Ayer would have to pull to get his version made, but he hasn’t given up the fight yet.
