Supreme sorcery fills the new trailer for Doctor Strange (Comic Con 2016)

Last Updated on February 2, 2026

Marvel’s DOCTOR STRANGE follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe. Witness Benedict Cumberbatch become the Sorcerer Supreme in this trippy new trailer straight from SDCC!

Coming from someone who knows next to nothing about this character, I have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on here, and I dig that! Scott Derrickson (DELIVER US FROM EVIL, SINISTER) has been known for directing some dark material, and I think that may come in handy considering Strange’s journey in this film. It’s certainly different than any other Marvel flick out there, and looks like it’s going to open a lot of doors for off-the-wall characters. All of the puns intended.

DOCTOR STRANGE opens in theaters on November 4, 2016.
