There’s been plenty of interesting news regarding THE EXPENDABLES 2 recently. A few days ago, word came in that the flick had received an August 17, 2012 release date. Even more intriguing, earlier last month we got wind of a rumor alleging Sly Stallone wouldn’t be returning to the director’s chair, instead opting to solely produce and star… Thankfully, today brings confirmation of the former, while negating the latter.
According to Box Office Mojo, Lionsgate has announced that Sylvester Stallone will indeed direct THE EXPENDABLES 2, which has set that August 2012 release date in stone. It would appear as though the screenplay by Ken Kaufman and David Agosto is still in play, although we won’t know anything for sure on that front for a while, I’d imagine. The main thing is that Sly is calling the shots.
The cast is still up in the air as well, although most of the principals are expected to come back. Jean-Claude Van Damme has been rumored to be involved, while Bruce Willis is all but assured to return as a shady CIA agent.
And what about Arnie? Dammit, he’s the man we all really want to see strut his stuff in the next EXPENDABLES adventure. If he’s not too busy mucking about with this embarrassing “Governator” silliness, hopefully he’ll be good to go for EX2.
