Sylvester Stallone’s dark superhero flick Samaritan releases new image!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

So this sounds like it has some potential, as Julius Avery (Overlord) is currently directing a dark and gritty superhero flick called Samaritan starring none other than Sylvester Stallone! And now you can get a first official look at the film at the bottom of the article, courtesy of Total Film (Games Radar)

Here's the official synopsis:

A young lad learns that a superhero who went missing 20 years ago is living next door to him.

And here's what Avery said about the project:

We didn’t really have superheroes…We only had action heroes. And Sly was the closest thing we had to a superhero. So to put him in a superhero movie? That feels fresh and cool and something that people will get a kick out of.

This is a big event movie – we see our heroes kicking ass…We’re going to see Sly do things he hasn’t done in a long time, and in a really inventive way. He’s 73 years old! I’m amazed by how much he actually does. I’m telling you, most guys in their twenties wouldn’t be able to do what Sly does in this movie.

Now, to be fair, Stallone has been a comic book hero (or, I guess anti-hero) in 1995's Judge Dredd, and even cameoed in 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy. But, nonetheless, I think Avery is right this is the first time Stallone's playing a superpowered character, as Dredd is just a badass policeman and he was simply a Ravager in GotG Vol 2.

Meanwhile, Samaritan is expected to hit theaters June 4, 2021…but we'll keep you updated if that date sticks.

So what do you guys think? Looking forward to Stallone playing a superhero? Either way, sound off below!
