A week from tomorrow we get to see if Guillermo del Toro’s faith in Troy Nixey is validated, as the latter’s DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK finally creeps into theaters. Cut from the mold of supernatural fables like PAN’S LABYRINTH and THE ORPHANAGE, we shall see if Nixey’s has the same filmmaking aplomb as his Spanish counterparts. To get a jump, have a look at the fresh pair of clips from the film below!

In the first clip, watch Bailee Madison, the little girl in the film, become targeted by a maleficent creature in the “Bath Tub.”

Coming to theaters August 26th, DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK follows Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison), a lonely, withdrawn child, who has just arrived in Rhode Island to live with her father Alex (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend Kim (Katie Holmes) at the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the sprawling estate, the young girl discovers a hidden basement, undisturbed since the strange disappearance of the mansion’s builder a century ago. When Sally unwittingly lets loose a race of ancient, dark-dwelling creatures who conspire to drag her down into the mysterious house’s bottomless depths, she must convince Alex and Kim that it’s not a fantasy—before the evil lurking in the dark consumes them all.
