Texas Chainsaw 4 Blu-ray was delayed again, details revealed

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation Matthew McConaughey Renee Zellweger

It took TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION, the fourth entry in the CHAINSAW franchise, several years to get a decent release back in the '90s, so it seems somewhat fitting that giving the film a collector's edition Blu-ray release is also proving to be a difficult endeavor. When originally announced by Scream Factory, the Blu-ray (PRE-ORDER HERE) was supposed to be out on September 25th. It was later pushed back to October 30th, then November 13th, and is now scheduled to be released on December 11th.

In the midst of all the delays, Scream Factory also had to alter the new artwork they had created for the release, having to remove the images of stars Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger.

All this time, the details of the Blu-ray's bonus features have been kept under wraps, but when Scream Factory made the announcement that it won't be released until December they also provided some information about what will be on the disc:

We can officially confirm that we will be presenting both the theatrical version of the film and the Director’s cut version (which is the theatrical version with spliced in standard definition footage). Also, we have a new audio commentary with Director Kim Henkel on the second cut!

The final list of extras is expected to be announced soon.

I'm glad to hear the director's cut will be on the release, along with the hacked-up theatrical version. Back in the day I had to import a DVD from Canada so I could watch the director's cut of this movie, since it wasn't on the U.S. release.

I'm also excited to hear that writer/director Henkel has recorded a commentary so we can get some further insight into what the man was thinking when he crafted this oddball sequel. THE NEXT GENERATION is not what I expected when I heard that Henkel, who co-wrote the original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE with Tobe Hooper, was making his own sequel. It has grown on me more and more over the years and its initial release was a major event for me in the '90s, but it is a strange one.

The synopsis of THE NEXT GENERATION goes like this:

When a helpful family invites two lost couples in for a good ol' down-home massacre, the prom night teens find themselves all dressed up…with no place to escape. Renee Zellwegger and Matthew McConaughey star in this hilarious bone-chilling sequel to the horror classic.

We'll keep you updated on this release as its hopefully final street date draws near.
