Disney+ is currently streaming the Rogue One spin-off, Andor, to both critical and fan praise. While the movie world waits for announcements and additional updates on the planned Rian Johnson trilogy or the Taika Watiti original film, some news has been revealed for the upcoming series, The Acolyte. The series, being helmed by Leslye Headland, has now started production in the U.K.

Lucasfilm has just released the cast list for The Acolyte. Amandla Steinberg from The Hate U Give was recently announced and joining her in the cast will be Lee Jung-jae from Squid Game, Manny Jacinto from Nine Perfect Strangers, Dafne Keen from His Dark Materials and Logan, Jodie Turner-Smith from Queen & Slim, Rebecca Henderson from Inventing Anna, Charlie Barnett of Russian Doll, Dean Charles Chapman from 1917, and Carrie-Anne Moss, known for The Matrix.

The Acolyte

The official synopsis from Lucasfilm reads,

“The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”

The series comes from Leslye Headland, known for the Netflix hit show Russian Doll. She is the creator, showrunner, and executive producer. The production, which is filming in the U.K., also has Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy as executive producer. Joining them as executive producers are Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson will be on as producers.

It has recently been reported that a secret Star Wars project is being written by Lost‘s Damon Lindelof, and tapped Ms. Marvel‘s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to direct. While Kathleen Kennedy is still trying to find her footing in greenlighting films for the franchise brand, the property is currently having more success expanding the universe with original shows on Disney+ including hits, The Mandolorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and currently Andor.

The Acolyte has not yet set a release date.
