The Addams Family 2 scares up an October 2021 release date

The Addams Family, The Addams Family 2, MGM, sequel

MGM announced today that next year's Halloween holiday is bound to get seriously spooky when THE ADDAMS FAMILY 2 has its theatrical premiere. The studio recently unveiled the first key art and a Halloween release date for the sequel, which was originally slated for an October 22, 2021 debut. The promo, as seen on Twitter, includes an expressionless Wednesday Addams standing against a banana yellow backdrop next to the words "A sequel. How original."

No plot details for the sequel have been revealed at this time, though as the new art suggests, we could be learning more as early as tomorrow. How dreadful!

Co-directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, THE ADDAMS FAMILY adapts the iconic family created by American cartoonist Charles Addams into the animated medium for a feature that turned out much better than many had anticipated. The 2019 film finds the eccentrically macabre family moving to a bland suburb where Wednesday Addams' friendship with the daughter of a hostile and conformist local reality show host exacerbates conflict between the families. While the film makes a few head-scratching choices along the way, THE ADDAMS FAMILY excels at presenting its title characters as creepy and kooky individuals who lead extraordinary lives. The film is packed with callbacks to the original live-action series as well as the beloved films presented lovingly by Barry Sonnenfeld.

Lending their voices to the animated original are Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac as Gomez Addams, Academy Award winner Charlize Theron as Morticia Addams, Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday Addams, Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley Addams, Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester, Bette Midler as Grandma, Elsie Fisher as Margaux, and Academy Award winner Allison Janney as the family’s arch nemesis Margaux Needler.

While many films have suffered setbacks due to the coronavirus pandemic, work on many animated films and series have continued thanks, in part, to remote studio setups and advancements in at-home recording tech. With Halloween likely being canceled this year in many parts of the world, hearing that the Addames will return to make next year's holiday particularly ooky sure is a nice treat.

Keep your eyes on this space for more updates on THE ADDAMS FAMILY 2 as early as tomorrow.
