The Addams Family trailer teases the return of America’s weirdest family

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Every family has their quirks, strangeness and rambling uncle who ruins Thanksgiving, but The Addams Family has been around for decades to prove that as weird as your family is at least you don’t have a severed hand crawling around and playing the piano. They’ve been gone from the big screen for years, but now the lovably freaky family is back in a new animated film, and the first trailer teasing their return has all the oddities, mad hijinks and Gomez and Morticia love you could ever want.

Simple and strange, the trailer brings out the whole family, including Gomez (Oscar Isaac), Morticia (Charlize Theron), Wednesday (Chloe Grace Moretz), Pugsley (Finn Wolfhard), Uncle Fester (Nick Kroll), Lurch and Thing and teases a series of hilarious gags all with the macabre twist we should expect. Also in the cast are Bette Midler as Grandma, Allison Janney as Margaux Needler and Elsie Fisher (EIGHTH GRADE) as Parker Needler. That’s quite the cast, and while Isaac and Theron may not be playing the live-action versions of the characters audiences may have wanted, they still seem to be bringing infectious energy and suaveness to their animated characters.

Touching on that point, surely fans and filmgoers were hoping for another live-action adaptation for the famous family, but this animated take looks perfectly fine and gives the directors (Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan) some freedom to take the characters where they have never gone before. The stunts can be more extreme, the places can be more sinister and Thing can be more…Thing-y.

Here’s a synopsis for the movie:

Get ready to snap your fingers! The Addams Family is back on the big screen in the first animated comedy about the kookiest family on the block. Funny, outlandish, and completely iconic, the Addams Family redefines what it means to be a good neighbor.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY hits theaters October 11.
