The Batman run time confirmed: will be almost 3 hours long

The Batman, 3 hours, runtime, film, warner bros.

UPDATE: Variety is reporting that the lengthy run time for The Batman that’s been floating around the last few days is legit. They have it listed at a lengthy 167 minutes without credits, making it nearly 3 hours, and the longest solo Batman film ever. So it looks like this next trip to Gotham City is going to be a long one. That said, nowadays that’s not an unusually long running time, with No Time to Die recently running almost as long, while Spider-Man: No Way Home was two and a half hours.

The Batman’s March release date will be here before we know it and I’m sure fans out there are wondering just how comfortable they’ll need to get in those movie theater seats when the film finally hits the big screen. If this latest theater listing is to be believed, The Batman‘s runtime means we’re going to need to get nice and cozy with two to three popcorn refills.

According to the listing for the film on the IMAX Melbourne website, The Batman will have a runtime of 176 minutes. That’s 2 hours and 56 minutes, for those seeking a different numerical perspective. That’s pretty much three hours to spend with Robert Pattinson’s take on the Dark Knight. The film’s IMDB page currently lists the film with a runtime of 2 hours and 55 minutes.

The 176-minute runtime would make The Batman the longest Batman movie to date. The current record-holder is Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises which clocks in eleven minutes shorter at 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Dark Knight is up next at 2 hours and 32 minutes while Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is just a smidge behind that at 2 hours and 31 minutes.

Per the film’s official synopsis, “It’s not just a call… It’s a warning. From Warner Bros. Pictures comes Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson in the dual role of Gotham City’s vigilante detective and his alter ego, reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne. Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies—Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright)—amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”

What are YOUR thoughts on The Batman’s reported 3-hour runtime? The Batman hits screens on March 4, 2022.
