It’s time for a new episode of our video series Deconstructing…, and this time around we’re taking a deep dive into one of the most famous films from the legendary Lucio Fulci, 1981’s The Beyond (watch it HERE). In the video embedded above, we examine this “outrageously gory occult epic” – and in the process, unearth some facts that fans may have overlooked. Check it out!

Starring Catriona MacColl, David Warbeck, Sarah Keller, Antoine Saint-John, and Veronica Lazar, The Beyond shows what happens when

a young woman inherits an old hotel only to find it sits atop a gateway to Hell and all manner of creatures lurk in the darkness.

The film is the second entry in Fulci’s “Gates of Hell” trilogy, which began with City of the Living Dead and ended with The House by the Cemetery.

Deconstructing… is a monthly web series in which

we choose one of your favorite horror movies and take it apart piece by piece (lovingly, of course) to see what makes it a classic. Each episode examines the origins, legacy and mysteries behind our beloved genre’s most iconic titles… but we play fast and loose with the rules, so expect the unexpected!

The show is Written, Edited, and Narrated by Gregory Burkart, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

A few of the previous episodes of Deconstructing… can be seen below. To see more episodes, and to check out our other shows, head over to the JoBlo Horror Videos YouTube channel – and subscribe while you’re there!

In addition to The Beyond, Fright Night, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Poltergeist, Deconstructing… has also covered The Fly (1986), Evil Dead II, The Exorcist, Night of the Living Dead (1968), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), Suspiria (1977), and The Thing (1982).
