Despite not having a hell of a lot of screentime in the original Star Wars trilogy, Boba Fett still managed to capture the imagination of fans across the globe. Although it was assumed that Boba Fett had met his demise in the Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi, he officially returned to the land of the living in The Mandalorian and will take center stage in an upcoming spinoff series, The Book of Boba Fett. Lucasfilm has released a new trailer for The Book of Boba Fett which showcases some new footage as Fett takes his place at the head of Jabba’s crime syndicate.

The final shot of the new Book of Boba Fett trailer showcases Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) gazing down through the trap door that led to the Rancor pit. Perhaps there’s a new beast waiting to gobble up Fett’s enemies?

Temuera Morrison has previously teased that the series will dive into Fett’s past and where he’s been since the last time we saw him in the original Star Wars trilogy. “We’re going to see his past and where he’s been since The Empire Strikes Back,” Morrison said. “Somebody pointed out he’s been kind of stuck in this one place, and now’s the time to actually go back in time and check out his journey and find out more about him.” Fett’s critics have said that he’s a vastly overhyped character; perhaps this new series will finally justify his enduring popularity.

The official synopsis for The Book of Boba Fett:

The Book of Boba Fett, an exciting Star Wars adventure teased in a surprise end-credit sequence following the Season 2 finale of “The Mandalorian,” finds legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand navigating the galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate.

The Book of Boba Fett will debut on Disney+ on December 29th.
