The Colony: trailer released for sci-fi thriller produced by Roland Emmerich

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Director Tim Fehlbaum's post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller The Colony (formerly known as Tides) is set to receive a theatrical, VOD, and Digital release on August 27th, and today we've gotten our hands on the film's trailer, which can be seen above, along with the poster, which you can see below.

Scripted by Fehlbaum and Mariko Minoguchi, The Colony has the following synopsis:

Cataclysmic conditions on Earth forced a mass exodus to a distant planet. Generations later, a manned mission hurtles back to assess living conditions on the desolate, mostly submerged world. The sole survivor of the expedition is attacked by a violent band of scavengers, themselves locked in battle with a far more sinister foe. Now, mankind’s very survival depends on the bravery and ingenuity of the lone astronaut.

The film stars Nora Arnezeder (Army of the Dead), Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (Department Q: The Absent One), Iain Glen (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter), Sope Dirisu (The Huntsman: Winter's Tale), Sebastian Roché (The Vampire Diaries), and Joel Basman (The Monuments Men).

Fehlbaum produced The Colony alongside Thomas Wobke and Philipp Trauer of BerghausWobke Filmproduktion, Ruth Waldburger of Vega Film, and Constanze Guttmann of Constantin Film. Serving as executive producers were Christoph Fisser, Henning Molfenter, Charlie Woebcken, Martin Moszkowicz, Christoph Muller, and Roland Emmerich, who has destroyed the world many times over in his own films. Katja Hoerstmann and Sonja B. Zimmer were co-producers.

The trailer for this one doesn't really grab me, but check it out for yourself in the embed above and see if The Colony looks like a movie you would like to watch next month.

Fehlbaum previously directed the 2011 sci-fi thriller Apocalypse (a.k.a. Hell), which had some of the same producers behind it. Roland Emmerich was an executive producer on that film as well. Fehlbaum's co-writer Minoguchi wrote and directed the 2019 drama Relativity.
