John Wick 4 is set to continue the hitman saga next year, but the movies have done a formidable job at building a world that can be explored through a streaming or television series. And that’s just what’s been announced. Outside of the Keanu Reeves movies, there will be an extensive look at the Continental hotel underground business with the spin-off prequel series called The Continental.

The Continental is set to stream on Peacock, but Variety now reports that the international distribution will have the show streaming through Amazon Prime. The international market takes place outside of the United States, the Middle East, and Israel. The series will focus on the manager of The Continental, Winston Scott, who Ian McShane portrayed in the films. Colin Woodell will be playing a younger Winston for the prequel. The official synopsis of the Lionsgate-produced show reads,

“Throughout the series, viewers will follow Winston through the underworld of ’70s New York, where he will battle demons from his past as he attempts to seize control of the iconic hotel – a hotel that serves as a meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals.”

Chris Mansolillo, the director of content acquisition of Amazon Prime Video, expresses his enthusiasm for the project, “The ‘John Wick’ films have created one of the most immersive, detailed, and enjoyable universes we’ve seen on screen in the last decade. We are extremely proud to play a part in continuing to build that universe, offering viewers an insight into the origins of the infamous Continental Hotel and its incredible characters.”

Joining Woodell in the show will be Mel Gibson as Cormac; Ayomide Adegun, who will portray a young Charon, based on the character portrayed by Lance Reddick in the films; Ben Robson as Frankie; Hubert Point-Du Jour as Miles; Jessica Allain playing Lou; Mishel Prada as KD; Nhung Kate as Yen; and Peter Greene who will play Uncle Charlie, based on the body disposal expert from the films.

The Continental has not set a release date but is planned to premiere in 2023.
