The Courier trailer: Benedict Cumberbatch leads true-life cold war thriller

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The first trailer for The Courier has been released and Benedict Cumberbatch takes center stage in this true-life cold war thriller.

Formally titled Ironbark, The Courier is a true-life spy thriller, the story of an unassuming British businessman Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch) recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history. At the behest of the UK’s MI-6 and a CIA operative (Rachel Brosnahan), he forms a covert, dangerous partnership with Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) in an effort to provide crucial intelligence needed to prevent a nuclear confrontation and defuse the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2020. Our very own Chris Bumbray reviewed the film during its Sundance launch and he called it "a compelling spy yarn that tells a story we should all know." Judging from this trailer, the film definitely looks like a film that's worthy of our attention.

Did YOU like the trailer? The Courier will release ONLY IN THEATERS on March 19, 2021. Check out the film's official key art below!
