The Craving: Adam Robitel, Darren Aronofsky team for Netflix series

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Escape Room director Adam Robitel and Darren Aronofsky (the director of Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream, and mother!, among other things) are teaming up for a Netflix thriller drama series called The Craving. Robitel has written the pilot episode with Gavin Heffernan and will be directing it.

Robitel and Heffernan previously collaborated on The Taking of Deborah Logan, which Robitel directed from their screenplay, and Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, where they were two of the five writers who worked on that film.

Robitel and Heffernan will soon be opening a writers' room so they can start putting together more scripts for the first season of The Craving – if Netflix decides to order a full season. The show aims to explore

the real-world horrors of addiction through a genre lens. It centers around a female sheriff in a Colorado ski town besieged by an unprecedented new threat.

I'm looking forward to hearing what this "new threat" is and what it has to do with addiction and craving. The first thought that comes to my mind is vampirism, that the townsfolk are going to start developing a craving for blood and an addiction to drinking it. But maybe The Craving will have something completely different to show us.

Aronofsky will be executive producing the show, alongside Elizabeth Gesas, for Protozoa Pictures. Robitel and Heffernan will also have executive producer credits.

In addition to Escape Room and The Taking of Deborah Logan, Robitel directed Insidious: The Last Key, and his Escape Room sequel Escape Room: Tournament of Champions was just released in Australia. Tournament of Champions will be reaching a lot more countries as the month of July goes on. The US release date is July 16.

We'll keep you updated on The Craving as the project continues to move forward.
