Back in 1997, it was announced that musician Rob Zombie would be making his feature directorial debut with an entry in the Crow franchise that would be titled The Crow: 2037. That didn’t happen and Zombie’s first movie ended up being House of 1000 Corpses a few years later, but thankfully the screenplay Zombie wrote for The Crow: 2037 is readily available, allowing us to dive into the story he crafted and the vision he had for the world of the Crow in the new episode of our video series The Horror Movie That Almost Was. Check it out in the embed above!

As reported by Variety in ’97, Zombie’s story begins in

2010, when a young boy and his mother are murdered on Halloween night by a Satanic priest. A year later, the boy is resurrected as the Crow. Twenty-seven years later, and unaware of his past, he has become a bounty hunter on a collision course with his now all-powerful killer.

Edward Pressman and Jeff Most were going to produce the movie, with Zombie’s manager Andy Gould executive producing. Zombie also planned to compose the score with Charlie Clouser.

The Horror Movie That Almost Was series focuses on

the various horror projects that could never seem to get things off the ground, be it for budgetary concerns, creative differences, or just an ever evolving Hollywood landscape. We dive into every aspect and see just how close these films had come to cameras rolling.

This episode was Written, Narrated, and Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

I kind of wish The Crow: 2037 had been made, as I think it would have been a very interesting and unique take on the concept. It would be easy for Zombie to remove the Crow elements and make it as an original that I would still be glad to watch.
