The Crow may yet still fly: legal battle between Relativity and Weinsteins settled

That reboot of THE CROW no one really wants to see and appeared to be forever dead? It has risen from the grave.

You may recall that last spring, the Weinstein company had sued Relativity Media over the worldwide distribution rights of the franchise’s re-launch that Relativity was planning. Relativity, in turn, claimed damages in excess of $20 million against TWC in regards to the film NINE, and the pissing battle was on. Then director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo dropped out, quickly followed by star Bradley Cooper, and it seemed like all odds were against THE CROW. Perhaps the universe’s way of saying that it just wasn’t meant to be…

Today, however, will strike some fear into the purists’ hearts. Relativity sent out the following press release, indicating that the fight is over and THE CROW is still flapping its wings.

“The lawsuit between Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company concerning THE CROW has been amicably settled out of court, and the parties will continue to work on the film together as planned. In addition, Relativity Media has dismissed all of its claims against The Weinstein Company for any wrongdoing regarding the release and distribution of NINE, and The Weinstein Company has dismissed all of its claims against Relativity Media.”

This does not mean that the project is entirely revived. F. Javier Gutierrez was the last name mentioned in conjunction with THE CROW’s director’s chair, but his involvement was never confirmed 100%. The film is most likely very far away from happening, but this settlement does clear away at least one hurdle for it.
