The Crow reboot gets its wings clipped after Jason Momoa & Corin Hardy exit

"Caw-caw! Bang! Fuck, I'm dead!"

– Top Dollar, THE CROW (1994)

Surprising no one, Deadline has learned that Jason Momoa and director Corin Hardy have laid their idea of rebooting THE CROW to rest. The project reportedly fell through after learning that Sony was preparing to bow out as the film's worldwide distributor.  Mike Fleming Jr. of Deadline also states that a source close to the film told him that the endeavor had fallen on creative and financial differences with Samuel Hadida, whose Davis Films holds the underlying rights and who was financing the film. Until this recent development, production was scheduled to begin within the next 5 weeks in Budapest.

Momoa and Hardy's version of James O’Barr’s cult classic graphic novel was announced last September, when Sony had secured the film for a worldwide release. Everything felt like it was finally going to happen, they even gave the project an October 19, 2019 release date. Alas, Hadida never finalized the deal with Sony, leaving the picture in a sort of limbo not unlike the story's main character, Eric Draven.

For the moment, fans of THE CROW will have settle for re-watching the glorious 1994 original film directed by Alex Proyas. To be fair, that movie is endlessly quotable, is dark in all the right places, and arguably has the best comic book film soundtrack of all time. With all of that in mind, I think we'll live.
