The first reactions to The Devil Wears Prada 2 say it’s a fun throwback sequel that’s “chic,” and “surprising,” but not as good as the original

It’s been two decades since Miranda (Meryl Streep) and Andy (Anne Hathaway) mixed it up at Runway, and soon, The Devil Wears Prada fans will walk alongside the dynamic duo again for The Devil Wears Prada 2, coming to theaters on May 1, 2026. However, before the comedic sequel sashays down the catwalk and into cinemas, those who’ve seen the movie early are sharing their first reactions.

Here are some of the first reactions to The Devil Wears Prada 2, starting with JoBlo’s own editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray:

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a Fun Reunion

The Devil Wears Prada 2 reunites the original main cast with director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna. It introduces an all-new runway of characters, including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, and Conrad Ricamora. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles as Lily and Irv from the first film.

Wendy Finerman produced The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt, and McKenna executive producing.

The Devil You Know

The 2006 movie starred Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, a brilliant but sensible new graduate who lands a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the demanding editor-in-chief of a high-fashion magazine. The film also starred Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, Miranda’s senior assistant, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling, the magazine’s art director. The film was a huge success, grossing $326 million and earning Streep an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

Labubu Steps Out

Heh. I love that MaggieM brought her Labubu to see The Devil Wears Prada 2. It’s a nice touch, and she’s wearing such a fancy outfit too! It looks like opinions on The Devil Wears Prada 2 are mostly positive, with a few outliers not being entirely on board with the sequel’s direction. I’ve never seen the original (I did end up watching Practical Magic the other night, as I promised), but I plan to watch it before Prada 2 hits digital platforms. I like the idea of Prada 2 emphasizing the importance of journalism in today’s fast-moving and questionable times. I could see myself enjoying that aspect of the film a lot, and from what I can gather, many of the performances are top-notch. I’m game.
