The Falcon and the Winter Soldier won’t debut on Disney+ in August

I know, not exactly the most shocking news of the day. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, was intended to be the first of the Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows to debut on the Disney+ streaming service. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was originally supposed to launch on Disney+ in August, but as the series wasn't included in Disney's recent unveiling of their August slate, TVLine was able to confirm that its debut has been pushed back. Again, not a huge surprise, but if you were still holding out hope that we'd get to see the series next month, let that hope vanish into the ether.

Much like every other production out there, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was forced to pump the brakes due to COVID-19, but from the sounds of things, quite a lot of work on the series was completed before the shutdown. That said, there's still more work to be done in order to complete the series, and there have been rumblings that production will resume fairly soon. Directed by Kari Skogland and written by Malcolm Spellman, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier takes place following the events of AVENGERS: ENDGAME and follows Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes as they team up for a global adventures that test their abilities — and their patience.

Anthony Mackie has previously teased that they're shooting The Falcon and the Winter Soldier exactly like a movie.

We’re shooting it exactly like a movie. Everybody who had worked on TV before was like, ‘I’ve never worked on a TV show like this.’ The way in which we were shooting, it feels exactly like we were shooting the movie cut up into the show. So instead of a two-hour movie, a six or eight-hour movie.

In addition to The Falcon and the Winter Solider, there are several other Marvel Cinematic Universe TV shows in various stages of production which are destined for Disney+, including WandaVision, Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk.
