Just when you thought they were gone, witness the return of the teaser for a teaser! This time it is for the HUNGER GAMES heir apparent DIVERGENT starring Shailene Woodley, Maggie Q, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Theo James, Mekhi Phifer, Ray Stevenson, and Zoe Kravitz. The science fiction film has been shooting in Chicago and is the first in a trilogy based on the young adult novels by Veronica Roth.

This brief clip showcases quite a bit of footage of the dystopian action movie that looks very similar to THE HUNGER GAMES. Kate Winslet in any cast makes it a must see for me and in her brief appearance here she looks like the equivalent of Jodie Foster‘s character in ELYSIUM. The lovely Maggie Q is seen quickly. Overall, this footage looks well shot, but nothing that makes me want to get in line to see it.

DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a future where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late. Based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth.

The full trailer will be playing during the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards which will be the primary demographic for this new franchise starter. Hopefully this works out better at taking the mantle from TWILIGHT and THE HUNGER GAMES than the numerous uninspired wannabees that have hit theaters in recent years.

DIVERGENT opens in theaters on March 21, 2014.
