The Flash: Billy Crudup has reportedly dropped out of the film

Billy Crudup, The Flash

Billy Crudup played Henry Allen, the father of Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), in Justice League, and was slated to reprise the role for The Flash as well, but when the film experienced delay after delay, it was said that Crudup eventually dropped out of the film. Last October, it was reported that Billy Crudup was once again in negotiations to join The Flash, but a new report from THR claims that the actor has once again dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. The Flash can't catch a break.

The actor is set to begin shooting the next season of The Morning Show for Apple TV, and it seems as though the shooting schedule for The Flash will conflict with that. It remains to be seen if the role will be recast, but I suppose that will depend on how important the character is in the current script. (Edit: THR's Bory Kit took to Twitter to clarify that the role will be recast.) Although Billy Crudup has exited The Flash, THR also reports that the role of Barry Allen's mother has finally been cast. Maribel Verdú, best known for Y Tu Mama Tambien and Pan's Labyrinth, will be playing the character, who is said to be quite important to the plot of the film, which will reportedly find Flash traveling back in time to prevent the murder of his mother, a move that will have drastic consequences when he returns to his timeline. In addition to Ezra Miller and Maribel Verdú, The Flash will also star Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Michael Keaton as…Bruce Wayne/Batman. Multiverse, here we come!

Andy Muschietti is slated to direct The Flash based on a screenplay by Christina Hodson, and production is finally slated to kick off this spring for a November 4, 2022 release.
