After revealing the first chapter of the DC Universe on Tuesday, DC Bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran addressed Ezra Miller’s fate as The Flash for the franchise’s future. Despite a series of bizarre stories, and alleged crimes perpetrated, Miller appears to be in good standing with DC Studios. While Miller’s place in the DCU remains unclear, Gunn and Safran remain optimistic about the actor’s future as the Scarlet Speedster.

Speaking about Miller’s future participation in the DCU, Safran said, “Ezra is completely committed to their recovery. We’re fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now.”

“When the time is right, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is,” Safran elaborated, “But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery.”

“And in our conversations with them over the last couple of months, it feels like they’re making enormous progress.”

News about Miller remaining a part of DC’s future is sure to ruffle feathers, though the Fantastic Beasts actor isn’t the only player whose participation in the DCU is in question.

When asked if DC’s new Supergirl, Sasha Calle, would remain the Woman of Tomorrow, Gunn said her fate is still under consideration.

“We’re figuring it all out,” answered Gunn. While Calle still has a chance to keep the cape, she could exit the franchise as the pieces of DC’s “God and Monsters” storyline fall into place.

Meanwhile, Gunn and Safran’s Chapter 1 plan presents several bold projects involving characters who will be new to the silver screen. The DC duo could have rebooted DC’s holy Trinity (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman). However, introducing The Authority, Booster Gold, and taking another crack at Swamp Thing is an intriguing approach to rebooting the comic book brand.

What do you think about Ezra Miller playing The Flash in the DCU? Does DC’s wait-and-see approach to the actor and character run you the wrong way? Which of DC’s newly-announced projects have you freaked out about? I need that Swamp Thing movie in my life, and Damian playing Robin in The Brave and the Bold is something I’ve wanted for years. Let’s go!
