The Flash will likely be delayed as Rick Famuyiwa has left the project

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

What the heck is going on over at Warner Bros.? THR has reported that Rick Famuyiwa, who was to direct THE FLASH, has left the project due to, say it with me now (again), "creative differences." Production on THE FLASH was set to kick off in March, but this little matter of having no director will likely mean a delay in both the start of production as well as the movie's release date as Ezra Miller already had another project lined up right after production on THE FLASH would have wrapped. Shit.

In a statement to THR, Famuyiwa said:

When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day. I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns, and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.

THR's sources say that Famuyiwa's vision of "making a movie with more edge clashed with the studio’s take." This isn't even the first time that THE FLASH has lost a director; earlier this year Seth Grahame-Smith exited the film, also due to "creative differences." This movie just doesn't want to get made. It's a little concerning that this keeps happening with Warner Bros.' DCEU films, don't forget, Michelle MacLaren departed WONDER WOMAN due to similar issues. THE FLASH is currently slated for a March 16, 2018 release, but unless another director steps in fairly quickly, we may not see the Scarlet Speedster's solo flick for some time.

Third time's the charm? Who would you like to see direct THE FLASH?
