Time for another getaway

Netflix has unveiled the new trailer for season 2 of the ensemble comedy The Four Seasons. This new installment picks up where the ending of the first left off and the group has planned a new vacation in celebration of their friend Nick, who was played by Steve Carell. The ensemble stars Tina Fey, Will Forte, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, Erika Henningsen and Colman Domingo. The eight-episode season starts later this month on May 28.

The itinerary

The official synopsis from Netflix reads,
“Coming off a hard year, our group of friends carries on their tradition of vacationing together — now with a baby in tow. The Four Seasons picks back up with the core group — Kate (Tina Fey), Jack (Will Forte), Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), Danny (Colman Domingo), Claude (Marco Calvani), and Ginny (Erika Henningsen) — as they journey from the familiar comforts of the Jersey shore and upstate New York to the stunning landscapes of Italy. With warmth and wit, personal blind spots surface for the group as they each grieve their late friend and embark on new adventures. Co-created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield, The Four Seasons remains a heartfelt and hilarious tribute to long-term relationships, while continuing to explore the highs, lows, and humor of enduring friendships and love.”

The directors of this season will include Colman Domingo (201), Lang Fisher (207, 208), Tracey Wigfield (204), Shari Springer Berman (205, 206), Tina Fey (202) and Robert Pulcini (203). Tina Fey co-created the show, as well as executive produces and writes with Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. Other exec producers include David Miner, Jeff Richmond and Eric Gurian. Alan Alda and Marissa Bregman are on board as producers on the season.

How was season one?

Our Alex Maidy found the first season to be quite charming. He gave it a 7/10 score in his review, where he says, The Four Seasons is a respectful update of the original that gives the entire cast great material to dig into that will bring you to tears as much as it makes you laugh. This funny series works as a one-off limited project or could develop into a recurring series playing on the themes of change and growth. Tina Fey has co-created a mature successor to Mean Girls that does for middle age what that classic film did for high school. I appreciate this series more now that I am in my forties than I would when I was younger, and I think the target audience will feel the same way. I never thought I would connect with a Will Forte performance like I did here, but he is one of six solid performances in The Four Seasons. It may not be a game-changer for the genre, but this is a strong series that is a very satisfying watch.”
