The Harder They Fall, viewership

It looks like people were in the mood for a good western with a strong ensemble cast. Netflix’s The Harder They Fall, which debuted on the platform amid strong critical reviews, proved to be a big hit, with its viewership numbers reaching into the millions, according to Samba TV.

Per Samba TV, 2.5 million U.S. households watched The Harder They Fall in its first five days streaming on Netflix. For comparison’s sake, The Tomorrow War on Amazon Prime Video was watched by 2.4 million U.S. households in its first five days. They also showed that the film skewed more female (+8%) and it over-indexed in households with Black viewers (+111%). Keep in mind, Samba TV is not the full picture since they only collect data from certain Smart tvs so the Netflix release could be doing even better than this indicates. Netflix hasn’t released official viewership data for The Harder They Fall, as is the case with most streaming services. Netflix has been on a roll the last few weeks with the success of Army of Thieves, The Harder They Fall, and they’re more than likely going to see big returns this weekend from Red Notice, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. There’s a reason that Netflix has remained the champ of these streaming wars and that’s because they put out entertaining projects that tap into a viewer’s needs.

Per the film’s official synopsis from Netflix, “When outlaw Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) discovers that his enemy Rufus Buck (Idris Elba) is being released from prison he rounds up his gang to track Rufus down and seek revenge. Those riding with him in this assured, righteously new school Western include his former love Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), his right and left hand men — hot-tempered Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi) and fast drawing Jim Beckwourth (R.J. Cyler)—and a surprising adversary-turned-ally. Rufus Buck has his own fearsome crew, including “Treacherous” Trudy Smith (Regina King) and Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield), and they are not a group that knows how to lose. Directed by Jeymes Samuel, written by Samuel and Boaz Yakin, produced by Shawn Carter, James Lassiter, Lawrence Bender and Jeymes Samuel, and featuring a red hot soundtrack and a stunning all-star cast, including Jonathan Majors, Zazie Beetz, Delroy Lindo, LaKeith Stanfield, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi, R.J. Cyler, Damon Wayans Jr., Deon Cole with Regina King and Idris Elba revenge has never been served colder.” Directed by musician and filmmaker Jeymes Samuel from a script he penned with Boaz Yakin, The Harder They Fall is now streaming on Netflix
