The Host 2 update

JoBloJoBlo

Bong Joon-ho’s monster masterpiece THE HOST (aka GWOEMUL) became a solid hit, and since then we’ve been hearing rumblings of a follow-up to the family drama/fright flick.

Now comes the official word — a sequel is coming, and it’s a co-production between Korean production company Chungeorahm and China’s Stone Man Films. The $12 million project will be written and directed by China’s Ning Hao, who made his mark with CRAZY STONE, a madcap caper action-comedy done with lots of style and not much money.

We had initially heard that Korean comic artist Kang Full was writing a prequel to THE HOST, involving the excavation of an ancient waterway called the Cheonggye Stream and featuring multiple beasts. That no longer seems to be the case — the new movie is apparently a straight sequel that concerns “a calamity caused when people ignore a monster due to their desire for money.”
