The Invisible Man sequel: James Wan could help Jason Blum revive the project

Five years have passed since the release of The Invisible Man, but star Elisabeth Moss is still hoping for a sequelFive years have passed since the release of The Invisible Man, but star Elisabeth Moss is still hoping for a sequel

Writer/director Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man (watch it HERE) reached theatres just two weeks before the pandemic shut down the world back in March of 2020, and yet the movie still managed to make over $144 million at the global box office, on a budget of just $7 million. So it’s shocking we haven’t heard more about sequel possibilities – especially since the 1933 version of The Invisible Man managed to get five follow-ups. During an interview about the upcoming sci-fi thriller M3GAN, producer Jason Blum suggested that he’s to blame for the lack of Invisible Man sequel news… and that his fellow M3GAN producer James Wan might be able to help him revive the project.

It was recently reported that Wan’s company Atomic Monster is going to be merging with Blum’s Blumhouse Productions.

The Hollywood Reporter said to Blum, “(Leigh Whannell’s) The Invisible Man set up an ideal way into an Invisible Woman sequel, but nothing’s come of it despite strong reviews and box office. So who do we hold accountable for this injustice?

Blum answered, “Well, it’s a great question. (Laughs.) I think we mostly hold me accountable, but hopefully, should our dreams come true and our two companies get to work together, maybe James will help me solve that problem.

Wan said, “I’d be more than happy to.

As most genre fans know, Wan and Whannell are good friends who started both the Saw and Insidious franchises together. So if there’s anyone who could convince Whannell to make another Invisible movie for Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, it’s probably Wan.

Whannell’s take on The Invisible Man followed a modern tale of obsession inspired by Universal’s classic monster character. Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss) slowly begins to rebuild her life after the death of her abusive ex-boyfriend (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). But before long, she begins to question whether or not he is truly gone.

Would you like to see Leigh Whannell make a sequel to The Invisible Man? Let us know by leaving a comment below. I really enjoyed the old Invisible Man franchise, so I’m totally on board for more Invisible movies.

Back in 2019, it was announced that Elizabeth Banks would direct and star in Invisible Woman for Universal, but we haven’t heard anything about that project in years.
