The Matrix 4 cast return to Berlin to begin filming after COVID-19 shutdown

Keanu Reeves and company are back in Berlin to resume shooting THE MATRIX 4 after production was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All major Hollywood movie productions had closed off their sets in recent months and waited for word on safety protocols that would deem it safe for cast and crew to get back to work. THE MATRIX 4, which set an early July return date to resume shooting in Berlin, has been given the go-ahead for production to restart as long as safety procedures are met.

"TMZ" actually spotted three cast members back in Berlin where they are gearing up to get back to work on the latest entry of the sci-fi action franchise and they include Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Neil Patrick Harris. Reeves is, of course, reprising his role as Neo while Moss is also returning as Trinity. As for Harris, there is no word as of yet on who he is playing but this will be his first foray into franchise. You can check out the pics of the trio below:

THE MATRIX 4 will be directed by Lana Wachowski, who also shares screenplay duties with Aleksandar Hermon and David Mitchell. Joining the cast along with Reeves, Moss and Harris are Jada Pinkett-Smith, Lambert Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, and Priyanka Chopra. Wilson and Smith are returning from previous installments while the rest of the lineup are in roles that are being kept under lock and key. 

Even though THE MATRIX 4 is getting back to work pretty much in the timeframe that they predicted some time ago, the film's post-production is pretty extensive due to the special effects that will need to be rendered to expand on the world that was created by the first three films. Due to this, the sequel had to shift off of its May 2021 release date and move to April 1, 2022, when the coronavirus put the Warner Bros. film slate into a bit of flux. The studio had to make some swaps to make up for some of the delays and since THE MATRIX 4 will need a lot of post-production work, it makes sense that the film was pushed into 2022.
