Kevin Smith has long been saying that he intended for his "CLUELESS meets GREMLINS" creature feature YOGA HOSERS to get a PG-13 rating. Despite this, I wasn't too surprised when I found out that the film had received an R. After all, its Gremlins-esque tiny terrors are "Bratzis", foot tall Canadian Nazis made of sentient bratwurst that force their way up people's asses. What was surprising was that the R wasn't for the rectal breaching Bratzis, but for a cartoony drawing of testicles. As reported last week, Smith was preparing to appeal the MPAA's decision, and the board was scheduled to have a second screening of the film today.
That appeals screening is not happening. Last night, Smith took to his social media accounts to share the news that the MPAA took in a second screening of YOGA HOSERS ahead of schedule and they agree with the writer/director: YOGA HOSERS is a PG-13 film.
The PG-13 rating now secured with no cuts, Smith can move forward with his plan to take the film out on tour in June and July, with the wider release expected to follow after the San Diego Comic-Con (which will be held July 21 – 24).
