The New Mutants director confirms release dates for trailer and film

The New Mutants Alice Braga Josh Boone

Last week, illustrator Bill Sienkiewicz sent out word that a new trailer for director Josh Boone's long-delayed adaptation of the Marvel Comics property THE NEW MUTANTS will be arriving sometime in January. Boone has since taken to his Instagram account to confirm that a new trailer is indeed on the way – and he shared the information that we can expect to see this trailer on January 6th.

Filmed in 2017 and originally scheduled for an April 2018 release, THE NEW MUTANTS has endured a two year delay because Fox didn't get around to scheduling the planned reshoots before the studio was acquired by Disney. Disney has scheduled an April 3, 2020 release for the film, and according to Boone's Instagram post they're still planning to get the movie into theatres on that date.

Directed by Boone from a screenplay he wrote with Knate Lee, THE NEW MUTANTS centers on

a diverse cadre of teens learning to cope with their superpowers. These new mutants find themselves held in a secret facility against their will and must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past.

Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga star.

We have less than a week to wait for the new trailer, and here's hoping that the April release for the film will actually stick this time.

Boone hasn't just been sitting around waiting for THE NEW MUTANTS to get released. In recent months he has been directing a ten part CBS All Access mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's epic novel The Stand.
