The trailer for Japanese monster movie Attack on Titan is totally nuts

We don’t often cover foreign films without domestic release dates here, but sometimes there is a film that just seems to fit with what our readers look for that we have to share it. Epic Japanese film ATTACK ON TITAN seems to fit those pre-requisites. You have action, sweeping action sequences, and big ass monsters. Yeah, this is our kind of movie.

Based on the popular manga, which has been turned into an anime series available via Netflix, ATTACK ON TITAN is a cross between THE HUNGER GAMES and The Walking Dead. Not usually a manga reader, I gave the series a shot and immediately know it would be big screen worthy. Here’s the synopsis.

A teenage boy named Eren Jaeger must use his special gift to fight alongside with the military to defeat the titan race. Mankind is on the brink of extinction when these man eating monsters terrorize everybody and destroy the last of human civilization left in the world.

The first subtitled trailer for ATTACK ON TITAN has appeared online and you can see it is full of the melodrama usually included in manga stories, but the spectacle on display is without equal. This is definitely the type of movie that would have Hollywood interest for a North American remake. I wonder how long it will take before we hear about the inevitable English version?

ATTACK ON TITAN recently held it’s North American premiere but has no domestic release date. It debuts in Japan on August 1st.
