The Power: Shudder acquires British supernatural film starring Rose Williams

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The Shudder streaming service has acquired the rights to the British supernatural horror film The Power and will be releasing it for their subscribers in North America, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand sometime in 2021.

Written and directed by Corinna Faith, The Power is said to be "in the spirit of The Woman in Black and The Others". The story is set

in 1970s London during a period of blackouts. As striking miners switch off the power across Britain, a young nurse on her first day of duty is forced to work the night shift in a crumbling hospital where a dark presence is lurking in the walls.

Here's another synopsis:

London – the long, hard Winter of 1974. As striking miners switch off the power across Britain, rolling electrical blackouts plunge the country into darkness. Val, a young nurse on her first day of duty, is forced to work the night shift in a crumbling hospital.

When most of the patients and staff are evacuated to another hospital across town, Val finds herself in a near empty building, enveloped by a sinister darkness. Within these walls lies a deadly secret and a terrifying presence. Now Val must face her own traumatic past and deepest fears to confront the malevolent force intent on destroying them all.

Rose Williams stars.

Emily Gotto, Shudder's Director of Global Acquisitions & Co-Productions, had this to say about it:

With The Power, Corinna Faith has established herself as a remarkable new voice in genre cinema. We know Shudder members will be terrified by her debut feature and thrilled by Rose Williams’ star-making performance."

The Power was produced by Matthew James Wilkinson and Rob Watson. Composer Max de Wardener worked with Elizabeth Bernholz (a.k.a. Gazelle Twin) to create the film's score.

The plot synopses, along with the fact that The Power has been compared to The Woman in Black and The Others, have me interested in this one. I'll be checking it out when it reaches Shudder next year.
