The Prometheus story will continue in comic book form. Is the film sequel doomed?

After almost a year since it hit theaters and divided audiences, Ridley Scott‘s PROMETHEUS is getting a sequel. But, it doesn’t look like it will be a theatrical one. Mike Richardson, publisher of Dark Horse Entertainment, told The Hollywood Reporter the following:

“We’re brewing something up that I think the fans of Ridley Scott‘s amazing film will really like,”

Dark Horse has long published ALIEN comic titles and as we all know, PROMETHEUS ties into the universe originated in that Ridley Scott film. Scott has been working with 20th Century Fox to try and find writers to realize a sequel to the open-ended PROMETHEUS, but word of difficulty behind the scenes may have led to the story being continued on the written page.

This by no means removes any chance of a PROMETHEUS film sequel, but I would say it definitely lowers the likelihood of it. The film did gross $400 million worldwide so a sequel would be a good business decision, but creatively there may not be as positive of a reception due to the lackluster reaction from many fans and critics to the movie.

Personally, I loved PROMETHEUS, warts and all, and would love seeing a sequel but if Ridley Scott is not on board, I would be wary.
