Whether you want one or not, a sequel to THE PURGE is happening, and it will be hitting theaters on June 20, 2014; at least that's what Universal and Blumhouse Pictures pictures has planned. James DeMonaco is set to write, direct and produce the second installment of the thriller as he will return alongside Blumhouse Productions' Jason Blum, Sébastien K. Lemercier and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.
Unfortunately, we have yet to hear any details on just where the second chapter will lead us other than the fact that it might be called THE ZONE. The first film raked in plenty of dough—with a production budget of $3 million, the movie earned $89 million worldwide at the box office—so it was a no-brainer for the studios to dish out a sequel, let's just hope it's worth a shit.
