We were just pointed in the direction of a new little horror flick from director Rob Schmidt, the man who gave us WRONG TURN, a film I could give a flying f*ck about, but I seem to be in the minority as lotsa people dig the shite outta that flick.
But this isn’t about WRONG TURN, this is about Schmidt’s next film, THE ABIDING, starring Stacey Farber (below) and Jonathan Malen. Not much is known about the flick, and it’s not even posted on Schmidt’s IMDb profile, so this is either really new that it’s under the radar, or it’s so old that it’s been since abandoned. I’m for it being really new.
THE ABIDING goes a little something like this: A peaceful American college town turns into a place where no-one is safe and everyone is a suspect. Students and locals begin to receive disturbing emails and phone messages from someone who seems to know a little too much about their private lives. Whenever a victim is contacted, they have no alternative but to kill or be killed. Who is this mysterious person able to turn friends and classmates against each other in this perfectly designed “game”? Or is it something much more ominous?
There’s a little more than that, but you get the idea. It’s almost like a cross between PULSE, ONE MISSED CALL, and SCREAM 2. Yeah, it’s kind of a weird combination, but you know… I can see it working pretty well. As long as it’s considerably better than all three of those movies combined then I think we’ll be ok.
