The Silent Hour: Joel Kinnaman to star in thriller directed by Brad Anderson

Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) recently wrapped working on John Woo’s Christmas Eve action movie Silent Night, which is said to play out entirely without dialogue. Now he has signed on to star in the action thriller The Silent Hour, which is set to be directed by Brad Anderson (The Call). Deadline reports that the project is being funded by AGC Studios. AGC is also producing the film and will be presenting The Silent Hour to potential distributors at the upcoming American Film Market.

Anderson will be directing The Silent Hour from a screenplay by Dan Hall. Kinnaman will be taking on the role of a Boston Police Detective who suffers an on-the-job accident that leaves him hearing impaired. Sixteen months later, he is now an interpreter for the department and must battle a team of corrupt cops attempting to eliminate a deaf murder witness in an apartment building.

Eric Paquette of Meridian Pictures is producing The Silent Hour with AGC Studios. Filming is expected to begin sometime in early 2023.

Kinnaman starring in an action thriller directed by Anderson sounds like a good pairing to me, as I have been a fan of Anderson’s work ever since seeing Session 9 at a theatrical horror marathon in 2001. The set-up for The Silent Hour sounds interesting as well, and reminiscent of The Raid. I’m sure this “battle in a building” won’t be as intense or brutal as The Raid is, but here’s hoping it will still turn out to be something cool.

Anderson’s other feature directing credits include Next Stop Wonderland, Happy Accidents, The Machinist, Transsiberian, Vanishing on 7th Street, Stonehearst Asylum, Beirut, and Fractured.
