Adam Green pulled off a jaw-dropping surprise last night when he revealed to a crowd of moviegoers who thought they were going to be watching a 10th anniversary screening of his film HATCHET that they were actually going to be watching a sequel that was made in secret. Green had mentioned on his Movie Crypt podcast that he had shot a new movie, but had never revealed what it was – and honestly, I was thinking it was a low budget comedy. Instead, that mysterious movie has turned out to be the fourth film in the HATCHET franchise, VICTOR CROWLEY.

Now that the hatchet is out of the bag and a theatre full of people have already seen VICTOR CROWLEY, it's time to start giving the rest of us a glimpse at the return of the titular slasher. Just hours after we learned the movie existed, Dark Sky Films has released a teaser trailer online.

Starring Parry Shen, Laura Ortiz, Dave Sheridan, Brian Quinn, and of course Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley himself, VICTOR CROWLEY has the following synopsis:

In 2007, forty-nine people were brutally torn to pieces in Louisiana’s Honey Island Swamp. Over the past decade, lone survivor Andrew Yong’s claims that local legend Victor Crowley was responsible for the horrific massacre have been met with great controversy, but when a twist of fate puts him back at the scene of the tragedy, Crowley is mistakenly resurrected and Yong must face the bloodthirsty ghost from his past.

I am still stunned that Green managed to make a HATCHET sequel and keep it a secret right until the moment of its premiere. It was such a surprise to me that when word of the announcement first started popping up in my news feed I almost thought it was a hoax. This is absolutely real, though. Victor Crowley is back.

VICTOR CROWLEY's second screening will be at FrightFest in London this weekend. In October, Green will be taking the film around the U.S. on a road show theatrical tour.

While you wait for your chance to watch the film, check out the teaser:
