The Soska Sisters take a bite out of Cronenberg’s Rabid in new trailer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

After breaking onto the scene in 2009 with their maliciously madcap horror film, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, and delivering every male predator's nightmare with AMERICAN MARY, Jen and Sylvia Soska, lovingly known to many as the Twisted Twins, have kept themselves quite busy while terrorizing Hollywood with their unique brand of filmmaking. With other films like SEE NO EVIL 2 and VENDETTA to their notorious names, it should come as no surprise that these wickedly wonderful women were entrusted with helming a remake of David Cronenberg's 1977 frightfest, RABID.

The first trailer for Jen and Sylvia's RABID hit the net yesterday, infecting horror fans with a new take on Cronenberg's orignial film that tells the story of Rose, a woman who undergoes extreme and untested stem cell treatment after an accident leaves her disfigured.

Here's the official synopsis for RABID:

What happens when you realize that to achieve your dreams you have to live a nightmare? Rose is a quiet, demure, unassuming woman in her looks and actions. Her dream is to become a famous designer in the fashion world, but a terrible accident leaves Rose scarred beyond recognition. She seeks out a radical untested stem cell treatment. The treatment is nothing short of a miracle and wallflower Rose turns into the belle of the ball. It all seems to good to be true. She is now everything she wanted to be. But everything in life comes at a price and this new found perfect life is no exception.

The film stars JIGSAW and SMALLVILLE alumna Laura Vandervoort, Greg Bryk (SAW V, SHOOT 'EM UP), Stephen McHattie (THE FOUNTAIN, WATCHMEN), Ted Atherton (MAX PAYNE, THE EXPANSE) and WWE sensation CM Punk, with Jen and Sylvia Soska also starring as Ellie and Bes, respectively.

With audiences positively foaming at mouth for the chance to experience RABID for themselves, it's recently been announced that the Soska's arousing remake of Cronenberg's vision will be making its world premiere at London's horror film festival Frightfest. The annual celebration of skin-crawling cinematic gems will take place August 22-26 at the Cineworld Leicester Square and The Prince Charles Cinema. RABID is just one of the festival's offerings, as  director André Øvredal’s SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK, Alexandre Aja’s CRAWL, Joe Begos’ vampire tale BLISS, Chelsea Stardust’s SATANIC PANIC, Adam Egypt Mortimer’s DANIEL ISN'T REAL, and Ant Timpson’s COME TO DADDY starring Elijah Wood are also scheduled to screen.

In addition to unleashing their version of RABID onto Frightfest audiences, Jen and Sylvia Soska will also introduce a screening of Cronenberg's original 1977 classic.
