There are movies that leave you breathless thanks to stunning visuals or heart-pounding suspense. There are also true stories told on the big screen that, despite knowing the outcome, still keep you on the edge of your seat with anticipation and anxiety. EVEREST looks to be all of those rolled into one.

Featuring an amazing cast that includes Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Josh Brolin, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson, Martin Henderson, Elizabeth Debicki, and Michael Kelly, Baltasar Kormákur’s movie may be the most impressive visual depiction of mountain climbing put to film. While Kormákur’s previous studio efforts like CONTRABAND and 2 GUNS do not feature the same sweeping cinematographic achievements, EVEREST looks to be a boost for the filmmaker into the upper tier of directors.

As a fan of movies like CLIFFHANGER, K2, and ALIVE, EVEREST looks like it is going to put 3D to great effect in theaters. Plus, the acting here looks pretty top notch. Jason Clarke is doing great things with every role he is in. And, if Jake Gyllenhaal is your lowest billed actor, that says something special about the rest of your cast.

EVEREST opens in theaters on September 18th.
