The Walking Dead promo image features Samantha Morton’s Alpha

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

The season 9 midseason finale of AMC's The Walking Dead ended with a fantastic reveal that a herd of zombies that had been pursuing characters throughout the episode had been acting so strange because there were a group of people hidden within the herd, controlling its movements, hiding their scent by wearing the skin of zombies. This dangerous group is called The Whisperers, and they're led by a woman called Alpha, who we'll be meeting when The Walking Dead season 9 resumes in February.

Alpha is played by Samantha Morton, but a newly released Walking Dead promo image offers us our first look at Morton as Alpha in her zombie mask. Alpha has previously only been glimpsed from behind in the trailer for the second half of the season.

The second half of season 9 will find

our groups of survivors, both old and new, continuing to deal with the impact of events that took place during the six years that have passed. Since the disappearance of Rick, many of these characters have become strangers to each other, and in some ways, strangers to themselves. What they do know is that they are in undeniable danger. They will soon realize the world just beyond does not operate as they thought. The group’s rules and ways of survival no longer guarantee their safety. A whole new threat has crossed their paths, and they soon discover it’s unlike any threat they have encountered or endured before. The group will start to question what they think they see. What may appear to be normal in this post-apocalyptic world could actually be more disturbing and terrifying than when the apocalypse first broke out. All that is certain is the stakes are high and numerous.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC airwaves on Sunday, February 10th.

While we wait the remaining month and a half to see Alpha in action, the character gets her first close-up in the image below:
