One of the greatest sci-fi / horror movies ever made is John Carpenter’s THE THING, from the killer musical score, to the amazing special effects, the film holds its own today and kicks the crap out of most new movies.
When I heard a prequel was in the works, I was a bit skeptical, but was glad they weren’t remaking it (which would be a remake of a remake). But a prequel… yeah, I guess I could see that. I mean, there was a camp full of dead people before the dog got loose… maybe there are more stories to tell!
The boys over at B-D scored some interesting news this morning, as they apparently have the inside scoop as to who will be directing the new film! That’s right, according to B-D, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. is in talks to direct THE THING prequel for Strike and Universal Pictures!
Heijningen who, you ask? He’s the writer and director of a little flick called RED RAIN from a few years ago, and he’s the dude lined up to direct ARMY OF THE DEAD for Zack Snyder’s Strike Entertainment. Anyone involved in Snyder’s camp has to have some level of creativity, right? Hey, this thing could end up being pretty cool…
Then again, this is just a rumor, and nothing set in stone, so take it with a grain of salt. In fact, it could all be a bunch of bullshit for all we know… then again, it could be legit! I guess we’ll have to wait and see for the official announcement!
