While this is the kind of news that isn’t all that surprising, it is the kind that puts a smile on my face. Why? Cause it proves that there really is a horror higher-power watching over the shape of movies we get to enjoy.
What the hell am I talking about? It appears as though Chan-wook Park’s THIRST, released in North American theaters this summer (check out Jared’s earlier report on that HERE), has officially been slapped with an R rating by the MPAA! And what, praytell, is the film rated R for? Check it: graphic bloody violence, disturbing images, strong sexual content, nudity and language.
In other words, it scored the perfect rating for what to be rated R for. Not just language, or violence, or nudity–but for all three! Gotta love it!
Not that there were any rumors to the contrary, but I always have this fear that when a foreign film is prepped for release in the U.S., that the distributor would cut it down to make it more widely accessible, i.e., trim an R rated film to a PG-13. Luckily for us, my fear has no merit!
So get ready to enjoy the hard R of THIRST in theaters everywhere July 31, 2009!
